The news next:

On this day (August 31) in the year 1852, the following items appeared
in the "New-York Daily Tribune" (Vol.12, No.3,548)

PORTRAIT OF GEN. SCOTT.-- We have received from N. Currier a large and
expensive portrait of Gen. Scott, from a Daguerreotype by Vanino. It
represents the her of many battles in his sternest aspect.

and in the "Business Notices":

All painted portraitures may be mistaken
For other faces than the originals,
But Root's expressive likenesses, sun taken,
        Compel your recognition. Each recalls
The living model, and old thoughts awaken,
As passing slowly round his pictured walls,
We note, half startled, faces we have known,
And eyes familiar, fixed upon our own,
