Soup Can; 2 x 3" plate

Unfortunately, for the very few who endeavor to make contemporary daguerreotypes, those original "bakers," the people who knew daguerreotypes, are long dead. With them died the secrets of an art and process that is (and was) fickle, frustrating, and downright unpredictable. The documentation they left behind is scant by today's standards; what remains is not easy to understand and is often contradictory. Making matters worse, there are no sources for equipment and supplies. This leaves each individual left to his and her own devices to re-invent not one, but several wheels.
